WORSHIP
In the PC(USA) Book of Order, we read:
“Christian worship joyfully ascribes all praise and honor, glory and power to the triune God. In worship the people of God acknowledge God present in the world and in their lives. As they respond to God’s claim and redemptive action in Jesus Christ, believers are transformed and renewed. In worship, the faithful offer themselves to God and are equipped for God’s service in the world.”
Thus, worship, at its core, is the people of God coming to God to offer sincere, prayerful praise and thanks for all God has done; to confess that we know we fall short of God’s calling; to receive again the grace God offers anew; to hear God’s Word proclaimed and made real to us; to enter prayerful dialogue with God about our world, our community, and ourselves; and to be empowered and nourished by the Holy Spirit!
At Trinity, we gather every Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. in our sanctuary. While all children are whole-heartedly welcome in worship, childcare is available for all infants through second graders, as desired.
Our gathering begins as we take time to welcome one another, and announce any and all significant events in the life of our community of faith. Our worship then flows into a prayerful dialogue with God through a variety of litanies, prayers, and music, before moving to the center of the service—the study of God’s word to us in Scripture. This takes shape in many meaningful yet diverse ways. Scripture is read; choirs sing and ring anthems; children gather for a special children’s message; sermons are offered; dramas are performed; and prayer is shared.
Following the study of God’s word in Scripture, worship flows into our response to God—a pivotal part of worship. For it is only through our response that our worship proves meaningful and effective, as God’s truth and grace speak to us and call us to new paths of faithfulness and commitment. Our response to God is seen in the offerings we give; the affirmations we make; the prayers we offer; the peace we share; the calls to mission we accept; and much more!
The word is also sealed through the sacraments—Baptism and Communion. These sacraments are signs of the real presence and power of Christ in the Church, and convey the grace of God to the people of God, uniting all to Christ. While baptisms are performed occasionally throughout the year, communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month.
As we part from our worship service, we go forth into the world to serve God and neighbor, knowing that:
God has welcomed and received us;
God has forgiven and redeemed us;
God has received our prayers;
God has proclaimed God’s truth;
God has empowered us to respond;
God has called us to be the body of Christ in the world today!
